What you need
- 1 tsp Turmeric powderTurmeric PowderRs 125.00
- 1 tsp A2 cow gheeA2 Cow GheeRs 999.00
- 2 tsp Raw multifloral honeyMultifloral HoneyRs 499.00
- 2 cups Milk of your choice
- a pinch Black pepper, freshly cracked
- to taste Cinnamon or cardamom (optional)
3 of these are ours — the rest you will have at home.
How to make it
- 01
Warm the ghee in a small pan on low heat and stir in the turmeric and pepper. Let it sizzle gently for thirty seconds — blooming the turmeric in fat is what the teabag versions skip.
- 02
Pour in the milk and whisk until steaming but not boiling.
- 03
Take it off the heat, let it cool for a minute, then stir in the honey (never boil honey).
- 04
Pour, dust with cinnamon, and drink while warm.
Haldi doodh long predates the café-menu "golden latte" — and the traditional method, blooming the turmeric in ghee with black pepper, is also the one that treats the spice right. Ten minutes, two cups, no powders-of-powders.
