Garcinia cambogia — Malabar tamarind, kudampuli, or kokum's sharper cousin — is a small souring fruit from the Western Ghats, dried and milled. In Kerala kitchens the dried rind has been used for generations as the souring agent in fish curry, where it does the job tamarind does elsewhere. That culinary use is what this powder is for. Sold as a souring agent, it is straightforward and traditional; it should not be confused with the concentrated HCA extracts marketed for weight loss, which this is not.

Our garcinia fruit is selected from growers in the Western Ghats, then the rind is dried and finely milled under controlled conditions to preserve its natural sourness and aroma.

How to Use
- The traditional souring agent in Kerala fish curry (meen curry)
- Added to South Indian curries, rasam and sambar in place of tamarind
- Used in coconut-based gravies and seafood dishes
- Stirred into chutneys and pickles
- Infused as a tart, refreshing drink with water and jaggery
Directions of Use
- Use 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon as a souring agent in cooking, adjusting to taste.
- Add during cooking so the sourness distributes evenly.
- A little goes a long way — it is markedly sharper than tamarind.
- Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
- This is a culinary souring ingredient. It is not sold as a weight-management product and no such use is claimed.
- Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you take any medication — particularly for blood sugar, cholesterol or mood — or have a liver condition, consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before taking it in quantities beyond normal culinary use.
