Whole dried hibiscus flowers, kept intact rather than milled, so the deep crimson petals unfurl in the cup and release their colour slowly. The infusion brews an extraordinary ruby red and carries a sharp, cranberry-like tartness that stands up well to sweetening. Known across India as gudhal and elsewhere as karkade or agua de Jamaica, it is drunk hot in winter and poured over ice in summer, where its acidity makes it unusually refreshing.

Origin
Our hibiscus flowers are selected from growers in South India and dried whole under controlled conditions, so the calyces keep their deep natural colour and tart aroma. They are sorted by hand and packed without milling.

How to Use
- A hot infusion, sweetened with honey or jaggery
- Iced hibiscus tea, poured over ice with a slice of lemon
- Blended with mint, ginger, cinnamon or lemongrass
- Simmered into syrups, sorbets and jellies
- Used as a natural colouring for drinks and desserts
- Added to hair rinses and masks, as is traditional in South India
Directions of Use
- Use 1 teaspoon (about 2 g) of flowers per 200 ml of water at 95°C.
- Steep 5 to 7 minutes — longer makes it noticeably more tart, not bitter.
- Sweeten to taste; hibiscus is sharp on its own and takes honey well.
- For iced tea, brew double-strength, cool, then pour over ice.
- Hibiscus stains deeply — rinse cups and light surfaces promptly.
- Store in an airtight container away from sunlight and moisture.
- If you take blood-pressure medication, consult a practitioner before drinking it daily.
